In today’s issue I want to show you how fast, simple and affordable it can be to launch your first digital product.

Digital products are my favorite revenue stream.

I call them “digital real-estate”,

because one course can generate the type of income for you you can get from a real estate investment... or more.

The problem is…

I cannot even begin to estimate the amount of consulting calls I did with people who set to launch a simple product…

…but turned it into a complex, multi-module project that was way over their heads.

They took what could have been a 7-day launch and made it into an overwhelming effort.

So let me make this easy for you:

I'm going to share a straightforward system for launching your first online course, that when done right can take you from zero to seeing your first sale in under 7 days.

Let’s go.

Step 1: Research and find a course idea

Start with researching an idea for your course.

Open a fresh doc (I use Notion), and begin brainstorming.

Give yourself 1-2 hours max for this. You need to move forward.

Look for:

  • People’s questions on social media
  • Best-selling courses on online platforms
  • Best-selling books on Amazon
  • Your goal is to find an idea that could be narrow, specific and popular.

Step 2: Plan you course

⚠️ DO NOT create your course yet

Once you have a good idea you believe people will want, outline your course.

I like to use Canva for a basic slide deck.

Your first course should be narrow and specific, and allow people to achieve a measurable and specific result in a short amount of time.

When it comes to length —

Aim for your course to be about 30-60-90 minutes long. No more.
Your goal is to solve a small and specific problem for people. Not save their life.

When it comes to pricing —
Aim for your first course to be sold anywhere from $27 - $47.

In this early stage you want to focus on quantity sold, not revenue.

Step 3: Build a basic, 3 page sales-funnel

Now that you have a course idea in place, it’s time to figure out the marketing.

Build a basic funnel containing:

  • A sales page
  • A checkout page
  • A thank you page
  • Building the funnel first will allow you to gain better clarity on what needs to be in the course in order for it to seem enticing on the sales page.

Or as one of my clients recently put it:

Do not, and let me repeat, DO NOT —
try and add bumps, upsells, down-sells, cross-sells or follow-ups in the beginning.

You first need to make sure your course is selling.

All the fancy stuff will come later.

Step 4: Create your course

Once your funnel is built, it’s time to create your course.

At this early stage — stay away from fancy gear:
Cameras, lighting and even an editing software.

Instead, use Loom and shoot the yourself going over the slides while explaining key concepts.

It’s simply enough to use, and allows you to cut away any stops and breaks you take in the middle.

Step 5: Put your course online.

OK. Your course is ready.
Now it’s time to put it online.

Again here, you already get what I’m about to say:

Do not use any fancy membership software that requires a lot of building and setups.

User experience is not your priority right now.
Moving quickly is.

So pick whatever software that will allow you to go online as fast as you can:
Whether it’s Gumroad, Skool or even Notion.

Step 6: Launch your course

All is ready: Now all that’s left is to go to Market.
In this step your goal is to figure out how you can get sales as quickly and as effectively as possible.

My personal course of action is the following:

If you have an audience — Launch it to them —
If you already have an email list or social following — tell your people about your new course.

If you don’t have an audience — Launch advertising

If you don’t have an audience, or are getting limited and inconsistent sales from your audience — It’s time to go advertising.

We can discuss the organic vs ads route in a later issue,
but the bottom line is this:

A healthy and growing business can be built in 24 hours using ads.

So if I were you, I would take a deep breath,
and invest at least $1000 a month figuring our the ads game.

Once you do — there’s no limit to the income you can make

Step 7: Testing, analysis and growth

Now that your course has launched — it’s time for the next stage:

Growing sales and turning it into a real business.

  • Here I would work on:
  • Scaling my advertising,
  • building an engaged audience,
  • and creating additional offers to the customers who already bought.

This is where the fun part begins, as you begin seeing your income grow month over month.
